One of Ireland’s best loved annual events returns to County Kildare from 21 to 23 September 2027. Taking place at Boherkill Farm in Rathangan, the National Ploughing Championships brings together agriculture, innovation, food, fashion and entertainment for three days of activity.

Whether you work in agriculture, enjoy discovering local food or simply want to experience one of Ireland’s biggest outdoor events, there is plenty to see and do.
A Proud Part of Irish History
The story of the National Ploughing Championships began in 1931, following a friendly rivalry between two farmers, Denis Allen from County Wexford and J. J. Bergin from County Kildare. Each believed their county had the best ploughmen, inspiring an inter county competition that brought nine counties together in Athy, County Kildare.
What started as a contest in a single field has grown into one of Europe’s largest outdoor events, requiring hundreds of acres to accommodate competitions, exhibitions, trade stands and visitors. Over the decades, the Championships have evolved alongside Irish agriculture, reflecting changes in farming methods, machinery and technology.
Today, the event celebrates much more than ploughing. It brings together rural communities, businesses, food producers, craftspeople and visitors of all ages, creating a lively showcase of Irish agriculture, enterprise and heritage.
